In Italy, maternity continues to be one of most critical factors for women who work. The rate of abandonment of professional life after the birth of a child is, in fact, among the highest in Europe (27.1%) - nearly one woman in three – with a consequent loss, also economic, for the Country system.
To meet mothers’ specific work needs, Gi Group has decided to support the pilot project Moms@work, which
has a double goal.
On one hand, putting together a database of qualified and motivated women who left the labor market after maternity - or who seek a more flexible professional assignment - and are now willing to return with great determination but also much flexibility in contractual and compensation terms.
On the other, finding a panel of companies to understand whether and how to handle the topic of maternity and the reconciliation between family and professional responsibilities. This is because the project is co-financed by the Lombardy Region, which wishes to understand
“in person” from the firm the critical areas, the specific problems and the costs linked to the presence or hiring
of a mother. Then an active policy is developed for maternal employment, implementing an ad hoc form of financing
with the companies themselves.
